Japan's Kyodo News agency reported a confession from Chinese officials today. Anonymous senior military officers are admitting that a Chinese frigate locked its fire-control radar on a Japanese vessel.
The incident happened late January. Chinese naval vessels were conducting military drills near the Diaoyu, or Senkaku, Islands. The islands are at the center of an escalating territorial dispute between China and Japan. The Japanese military accused one of the Chinese frigates of locking their weapons system on a Japanese vessel. The Chinese regime said it was a "fabrication," but according to Kyodo, the radar locking did happen.
Quoting the anonymous sources, Kyodo news said a Chinese commander was acting of his own accord. However, the sources also said he was acting in line with the military's policy.
In a statement to the AFP, China again denied the claims. It said Japan was trying to stir up anti-China sentiment and discredit the Chinese military.
